So it's Stardate 9521.6 and the USS Excelsior, under the command of Captain Hikaru Sulu is wrapping up its three year assignment of cataloging gaseous anomalies in the Beta Quadrant when suddenly, the ship is rocked by a shockwave, caused by the explosion of this moon, the Klingon Empire's key energy producing facility?
So Spock volunteers Kirk and the Enterprise-A to escort Gowron, the Klingon chancellor, to Earth for a peace conference. Kirk objects, but Spock reminds him of an old Vulcan proverb, that only this human, a 20th century American, "could go to China."
So Kirk's recording a captain's log while they're underway to meet Gorkon's party when he says "I've never trusted Klingons, and I never will. I can never forgive them for the death of my boy." What was the first name of said boy, Kirk's son with Dr. Carol Marcus, killed on the Genesis Planet in the events of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
So the Klingons are going to beam over for a meal onboard the Enterprise, complete with Romulan ale. Chekov, laying bare the not so subtle racial undertones of the film utters this line to himself, which is also the name of a landmark 1967 film starring Spencer Tracy, Sidney Poitier, and Katharine Hepburn.
So they're having dinner, and it's going...poorly. Chancellor Gorkon offers a toast to "the undiscovered country – the future." Spock quickly notes that the line comes from Act III, Scene I of what Shakespearean play (allegedly better when read in the original Klingon.)
So the Enterprise bridge crew is trying to plow through their hangovers when a pair of torpedoes hit Kronos One. Just as Kirk prepares to beam over with McCoy, Spock pats Kirk on the back and places this object on his uniform. It will become an important plot point later.
So Kirk and McCoy are forced to stand trial in a Klingon court, defended by Colonel Worf. Prosecuting is Gorkon's chief of staff, General Chang, who at one point demands of Kirk "don't wait for the translation", harkening back to a 1962 demand by what U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
So Kirk and McCoy are condemned to Rura Penthe, where they meet Martia, who helps them "escape". She is able to do this, in part, because she is a chameloid, or shapeshifter. What Somalian model/actress, who was married to David Bowie until his 2016 passing, played Martia?
So the Enterprise has rescued Kirk and McCoy and is now trying to save the peace conference, but they don't know where it is, even after Spock's mind-meld interrogation of Valeris. Thankfully, Sulu knows that its to be held at this planet.
So the cloaked bird-of-prey that fired upon the Kronos One is lying in wait for the Enterprise. While spouting Shakespearean quotations at Kirk during battle, the bridge crew realizes they can find the bird-of-prey by modifying a torpedo to search for what, expelled by any space vehicle under impulse power.
So Kirk manages to tackle the Federation President out of the path of an assassin's strike, who is later revealed to be Colonel West (but not in the theatrical version). Colonel West was played by what actor, who would go on to become a series regular on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine?
So, the crew of the Enterprise has once again saved the galaxy. After receiving orders to put in to Spacedock for decommissioning, Spock states "If I were Human, I believe my response would be '__ __ ____.' If I were Human." What three words correctly complete that statement?
