Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead fame has a cameo in this remake, one of the few film remakes considered at least as good as the original film. Robert Duvall also has a cameo as a creepy priest on a swing in the film's opening. This is the first film in which Leonard Nimoy's character dies, and a bagpipe version of "Amazing Grace" is heard near the film's ending.
