"Star Trek" (and its host of television spinoffs) has relied heavily on the presence of many guest stars to fill roles of rogues, aliens, and your odd occasional half-naked space princess. While some guest stars are quiet well known for their appearance on the final frontier, others are well known people but are not generally known for their appearance on Star Trek. Here are 12 (hopefully accessible to non-Trekkers) questions that revolve around people who put in an appearance on the final frontier. For the uninitiated: "TOS" = The Original Series (Shatner, Nimoy), "TNG" = The Next Generation (Stewart, Frakes), "DS9" = Deep Space Nine (Brooks, Visitor), and "Voyager" = Voyager (Mulgrew, Beltran). Yeah ... I didn't delve into "Enterprise" ... maybe, depending on interest, a sequel.

This actress was still one year away from her big break when she appeared on TNG as Hedril, a telepathic youngster who triggers repressed memories and a psychotic break in the usually comic Lwaxana Troi. She won the Best Actress Award at Cannes for playing a morose bride getting married on the eve of Earth's destruction in Lars von Trier's Melancholia. Identify this actress who is currently starring in the TV series Fargo.
The disaster of a DS9 episode "Let He Who Is Without Sin ..." involves Worf joining a terrorist group to bring down a pleasure planet because Worf never liked to have a good time, especially when his girlfriend (Dax) has met up with a former lover, played by this woman. This woman is one of the few who is allowed to have a duplicate SAG stage named, shared with a woman with the middle initial "A" (this woman starred in the filmSoul Food, while "A" starred in the TV series of the same name). This woman played Wilhelmina Slater in Ugly Betty and was the woman being protected by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Eraser. This woman has 11 Grammy nominations, including one for singing "Colors of the Wind" on the soundtrack for the Disney film Pocahontas. Identify this first African-American woman to be crowned Miss America, who still managed to make an exceptional career after her title was taken away when previously taken nude photos of her surface in Penthouse Magazine.
On the Voyager two-part time travel episode "Future's End", this woman played a Griffith Park Observatory astronomer who happens to detect the title starship in orbit around 1996 Earth. This actress recently received praise for her turn in the drama I Smile Back. This woman voiced Vanellope von Schweetz opposite John C Reilly's title character in Wreck-It Ralph. Identify this stand-up comic and actress, a former girlfriend of Jimmy Kimmel.
The answer to number three once commented at a celebrity roast that this man's body had the ability to synthesize riboflavin from cocaine. Jon Lovitz once (according to multiple sources) beat the living daylights out of this man, ostensibly for re-hooking Phil Hartman's wife on drugs, which led to Phil's murder and her suicide, and then putting a death hex on Lovitz. Considered a pretty awful actor and a worse human being, this man played the Emergency Medical Hologram - Mark II in the "Message in a Bottle" episode of Voyager. Identify this unfunny comic actor who admits that he likely had a hand in Chris Farley's overdose death, and who played Matthew Brock on NewsRadio.
In the TNG episode "Homeward", this actor played Worf's step-brother, Nikolai, who gets in to big trouble trying to save a dying race by violating that whole Prime Directive thing. He is uncredited as mob leader Tommy Morolto in The Firm, but is credited as Claire Danes' father in Romeo + Juliet and as Henry Kissinger in Oliver Stone's Nixon. Identify this actor likely best known for playing Pesci, DeNiro, and Liotta's boss, local mobster Paulie Cicero in the classic Goodfellas (hint: he hasn't won an Oscar, but his daughter has!)
This woman played young Alec Ramsay's mother in The Black Stallion and received her only Oscar nomination for her work in Tootsie. Had the TOS episode "Assignment: Earth", in which she played secretary Roberta Lincoln, proven more popular, it would have led to the first Star Trek spin-off. Instead, she would go on to play Richard Dreyfuss' very confused wife in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Identify this actress perhaps best known for her role as Inga in Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein.
This man was nearly unrecognizable as the angry Klingon captain K'Vada, forced to ferry Picard and Data to find Spock on Romulus in the TNG episode "Unification". He played the blind manager of the radio station where George Clooney and company recorded "I am a Man of Constant Sorrow" in O Brother, Where Art Thou?. This actor played the man who hires Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men, and might also be remembered for playing rich radio station owner Jimmy James on NewsRadio. Name this actor whose longest engagement was as the voice of Bill Dauterive and Buck Strickland on King of the Hill, but might be best remembered for playing stapler aficionado/arsonist Milton in Office Space.
Only one guest star in the history of Trek ever got to play their self, appearing in the cold opening of the TNG episode "Descent (part I)", where he is seen chiding Newton about "the apple story", and Einstein for being "wrong again", before beating those two and Data in poker with a hand of four sevens. Identify this best-selling author and scientist.
This multi-talented man co-wrote with Andre Gregory(and co-starred in) the Louis Malle film My Dinner with Andre. This man also helped to script another Louis Malle film in which he starred opposite Julianne Moore, Vanya on 42nd Street. He's appeared in a lot of films directed by Woody Allen, but his distinctive voice can be heard as Mr. Incredible's gruff boss, Gilbert Huph in The Incredibles and as Rex in the Toy Story franchise. He made seven appearances as the leader of the Ferengi people, Grand Nagus Zek, on DS9. Identify this writer and actor who forever will be immortalized as the kidnapper Vizzini (INCONCEIVABLE!) in The Princess Bride.
This man appeared in three episodes of Voyager as Lon Suder, a man who drives the Vulcan Tuvok to insanity with a mind meld. This man earned an Oscar nod for his first credited feature film performance, playing Billy Bibbit in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Name this actor who is the voice of Chucky in the Child's Play franchise, and who played Grima Wormtongue in The Lord of the Rings.
In the early days of the world wide web, a picture of this woman wrapped in a cape became the first image to be tracked as "the most downloaded image on the internets". She was pregnant when she became a Bond girl/sacrificial lamb opposite Pierce Brosnan in Tomorrow Never Dies, and her earliest role was as a recurring mermaid on The Love Boat. That mermaid role came just three years before briefly appearing as a gorgeous lieutenant who gets bedded by the title character of the first season TNG episode "The Outrageous Okona". Identify this woman whose breasts probably are real and spectacular, just like her character on Seinfeld and who earned SAG and Golden Globe awards for playing Susan Mayer on Desperate Housewives from 2004-2012.
In 1966, Jonathan Goldsmith played an uncredited red-shirted crewman on TOS episode "The Corbomite Maneuver". Goldsmith would not earn lasting fame until he took on the mantle of this character in 2006. This character has been described (by the voice of Will Lyman) in various ways including that a rattlesnake died of excruciating pain five days after biting this man, that this man was disqualified after winning the Tour de France on a unicycle, that this man can touch the art in art museums, that this man's passport requires no photo, and that if opportunity knocks when this man is not home, then opportunity waits. Identify this now iconic advertising character.
