Ahhhhhh, the 2000s! A decade of wonderful materialistic pop music! A decade where rappers really, really started to make money and wanted everyone to know about their bling. When all we wanted to do was enjoy that Clinton economic boom and feel good after 9/11 changed our entire world. Here it is! Need to bone up on your Billboard Chart history? Ever get a question at pub quiz about a one-hit-wonder and you scream in frustration? Then this series of quizzes will help you! I'll be talking about artists that only had ONE song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. I'll be doing a quiz or three (there's a lot of these songs) for every decade that the Hot 100 has been around. So, get your music brains on and let's begin!

On my last quiz, I talked about featured artists and I have one last question for you. 2001 brought us the phenomenon that was Shaggy and he had two monster hits that year that featured singers Rayvon and Rikrok, giving them their only #1s. NAME EITHER SONG.
Let's talk about another 2000s phenomenon: American Idol. Of the first five seasons, 4 winners and 1 runner-up each hit the #1 spot with their debut single. One of those winners, Kelly Clarkson, had many more #1s because she's M'Fing Kelly Clarkson. Name THREE SINGERS of the following four songs: (1) Do I Make You Proud (2006) / (2) This is the Night (2003) / (3) Inside Your Heaven (2005) / (4) I Believe (2004) (THREE ANSWERS REQUIRED)
Speaking of American Idol, we must jump across the pond to the UK and talk about X Factor, the British equivalent of Idol. WHAT 2006 WINNER of the show hit it huge in the US with 2008's "Bleeding Love"?
NSYNC...oh yeah, we're going there. Technically, if you count Justin Timberlake, then the boy band isn't a Billboard one-hit wonder. However, none of the other guys had any other #1s other than 2000's "It's Gonna Be Me." NAME THREE MEMBERS of NSYNC other than Timberlake. I will accept first and/or last names. (THREE ANSWERS REQUIRED)
Let's stay on boy bands for a minute: before the Jonas Brothers hit #1 last year with "Sucker," the last boy band to get the top spot was B2K. WHAT 2003 SONG with a 3x-repeated one-word title got them there?
My theme for the next two questions: What you doin' here, white boy? In 2006, we were introduced to English singer/songwriter James Blunt. WHAT SONG, aided by a dreary music video featuring his handsome face "in a crowded place", got this guy to #1?
The same year as James Blunt's mega-smash saw a rather more uplifting song called "Bad Day." Trust me, it was much more positive. It was featured heavily on the fifth season of American Idol and propelled WHICH SINGER to the top of the pops?
Since we're talking about white boys, let's bring in Weird Al Yankovic. Now, the polka parody king has sadly never hit #1 but the closest he ever came was "White and Nerdy," which hit #9 and is a cover of WHAT 2006 #1 SONG for Chamillionaire? Be careful: Weird Al's title is not a straight-up ripoff of the real song.
2001 saw the release of a little movie called Moulin Rouge and, for the soundtrack, a cover of LaBelle's 1975 jam "Lady Marmalade" hit the airwaves. Of the four superstar ladies on the song, Pink and Christina Aguilera went on to have more Billboard success. Name THE OTHER TWO SINGERS on the track. (TWO ANSWERS REQUIRED)
Let's continue on the theme of female rappers: last quiz, I mentioned Shawnna being on the very small list of female MCs to reach #1. One of the answers to #9 is also on that list. There's also Remy Ma. She teamed up with Fat Joe on a 2004 track called "Lean Back." Even though Joe and Remy were the only rappers on the track, WHAT GROUP is credited as the artist?
"Lean Back" was one of several songs that started a mini dance craze. Another one hit in 2007 when teenage rapper Soulja Boy hit the #1 spot with WHAT SONG that made my little brother finally learn who Superman was.
Let's swing wildly in the other direction: country music. Lately, that genre doesn't generally ever get close to the Top 10 and for it to get to the top spot is almost unheard of. Last year's "Old Town Road" is country but heavily influenced by rap. Some would say Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together" could be considered country but that's shady at best. What cannot be disputed is that in 2000, a bonafied country group hit #1 with what could be the last pure country song to hit that mark. That group was Lonestar. NAME THE SONG.
Theme for the next two questions: rock bands that nobody likes. First up: Creed! In 2000, the band from Florida came on the scene and immediately made an impact with their album Human Clay. WHAT SINGLE from that album hit #1 and forever cemented this band's legacy? Hint: Think Jesus on the cross. Also, thanks Florida, ya buncha jerks!
And now...the other one. Canada has gifted us some great things: Alanis Morissette and Tim Horton's. Also, some iffy things: Beiber and Drake. But, IMO, the absolute worst thing they have ever bestowed upon these United States was THIS BAND who hit #1 in 2001 with "How You Remind Me." I'll forgive you one day, Canada. Maybe free Tim Horton's delivered by Justin Trudeau would help.
Hopefully, you know who Imogen Heap is. If you don't, get on it and learn about this widely influential singer/songwriter. She has never hit #1 but Jason DeRulo heavily sampled her song "Hide and Seek" on WHAT 2009 HIT?
Posthumous time: In 2003, rapper Soulja Slim was killed in a drive-by shooting. Nine months later, a song he wrote and was featured on, "Slow Motion," hit #1 and was the only top hit for Slim and WHAT NEW ORLEANS-BASED RAPPER? I'll never understand how that song hit #1 and not the far superior "Back That Azz Up."
Plagiarism Corner! Canada also gave us Avril Lavigne. Whatever you think of her and her musical "abilities," she hit #1 in 2007 with WHAT SONG? Too bad for her, it ripped off 1979's "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" by The Rubinoos, who are probably most famous for the theme song to Revenge of the Nerds. Don't worry, they got an undisclosed settlement.
