Wein entered the comic book world as a freelance writer, first for DC and then for Marvel. His first work for Marvel, in 1970, was a one-issue story in which WHAT SUPERHERO battles The Tribune, a right-wing vigilante who has come to Hell's Kitchen to ensure that three teenage radicals on trial for bombing a hotel are punished... one way or another?
In 1971, Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson created the character of Alec Holland, better known as WHAT DC COMICS CHARACTER, for the anthology title The House of Secrets? Wein would later write and edit stories for a Marvel character with a remarkably similar name, appearance, and origin, who was famously introduced the very same month.
While working at Marvel in 1972, Wein and artist Neil Adams introduced the character of scientist and spy Barbara "Bobbi" Morse, who would would later join the costumed hero crowd and become a member of the Avengers under WHAT HEROIC IDENTITY?
Returning to DC, Wein took up the writing job on Justice League of America. During his tenure there he introduced into the modern age WHAT WORLD WAR II-ERA SUPERTEAM (DC's second-oldest), whose classic lineup comprises Green Arrow, Speedy, The Crimson Avenger, Vigilante, Shining Knight, the Star-Spangled Kid, and Stripesy?
Also in 1972, Wein and artist Carmine Infantino created the character of Christopher Chance, a private investigator and bodyguard who assumes the identities of clients targeted by dangerous criminals. Chance is better known under WHAT ALTERNATE IDENTITY, also the title of two (largely unsuccessful) TV shows starring the character? The character has also appeared on Arrow, played by Wil Traval.
Wein and artist Dick Dillin later introduced a Justice League villain known as Libra. Libra only managed a few appearances until 2008, when he suddenly became one of the main antagonists of WHAT CROSSOVER STORYLINE written by Grant Morrison? The epic story comprised a seven-issue miniseries, the stand-alone DC Universe #0, and a 51-issue "Countdown to _____".
In 1974, Wein, editor Roy Thomas, and artist John Romita Sr. created the most famous character of Wein's career - the mutant known as Wolverine. Wolverine first appeared in a story written by Wein, fighting WHAT SUPERHERO on behalf of the Canadian government?
In 1975, Wein became the editor for the reboot of Marvel's X-Men franchise, which had been on hiatus for five years. Wein and artist Dave Cockrum created the characters of Nightcrawler, Storm, and Colossus, and Wein outlined the plot of the first issues of the new series for WHAT COMIC BOOK AUTHOR, who would make his reputation for his work on X-Men?
In 1979, Wein returned to DC. There he primarily served as an editor, but he did work as a writer as well. On the very first issue he wrote, he introduced WHAT CHARACTER, who would go on to be played on the big screen by Morgan Freeman?
In the 80s Wein moved to California and got into television writing. Among the many shows he worked on, from 1994 to 2001 he would write for WHAT TELEVISION SHOW, the world's first half-hour-long, completely computer-animated, TV series? In it, Bob, Enzo, and Dot Matrix sought to keep Mainframe safe from Megabyte and Hexadecimal.
While working in television, Wein still managed to find time to work in comic books. In particular, he wrote issues of Simpsons Comics and Futurama Comics for WHAT COMIC BOOK PUBLISHER, which takes its name from a (non-Simpsons, non-Futurama) character created by Matt Groening and not a musical instrument?
Back in his days at DC Wein served as editor for Alan Moore's famous Watchmen limited series. This experience made him a natural fit to write the story for WHAT WATCHMEN-INSPIRED VIDEO GAME, which provided backstory to both the comic book and movie? The game takes its title from a famously-ominous sign Rorshach (in his civilian identity) carries in Watchmen, and is appropriately the last answer of this tribute quiz.
