This is the title of an 1869 poem by Paul Verlaine, which ends with the stanza:
With the still moonlight, sad and beautiful,
That sets the birds dreaming in the trees
And the fountains sobbing in ecstasy,
The tall slender fountains among marble statues.
This poem became the inspiration for a more famous piece of music of the same name, the third movement in a piano suite entitled Suite bergamasque. Identify this piece written for piano by Claude DeBussy.
