This county-western musician was a formidable part-time competitor in 35 NASCAR starts throughout the 60's and 70's, with two top 10 finishes at the Southern 500 and a top 5 finish in the 1974 Michigan race. The 1983 Nashville race was named in honor of him after his death from a heart attack in December 1982.
