This surfer saved over 500 people as a lifeguard in the high surf of Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu; he was lost at sea trying to do the same for the crew of the seafaring canoe Hoku'lea. As many a bumper sticker will still tell you on the islands, who "would go?" (First name acceptable.)
