An old mainstay of elementary school science classes was the film of the creation of this volcano, which erupted in a Mexican cornfield in 1943 and by 1952 was 424 meters over the previous valley floor. No one was killed in the eruption itself, but three people were killed when they were struck by lightning generated by the pyroclastic phenomena.
