The successful transmission of the EMH Mark-1 (aka The Doctor) to this prototype ship, NX-74913, compelled Starfleet to start the Pathfinder project to find USS Voyager in the Delta Quadrant. The EMH Mark 1, alongside the EMH Mark 2, helped defeat an attempted Romulan theft of the prototype.
