A 21-mile long north-south trunk line officially known as "M-1" or Michigan State Route 1, this street is considered to be "Detroit's Main Street" and is named for the Detroit judge who plotted it (and who gave Detroit her motto and helped found the University of Michigan.) (It is also the host of a namesake Dream Cruise on its Oakland County portion.)
