Statutes of Limitations by VaccaD

Question 11

WHAT ATHENIAN STATESMAN justified Athens' introduction of a statute of limitations (five years for all offenses except murder and official wrongdoing) as a way of discouraging plaintiffs from bringing lawsuits in the hopes that defendants would settle rather than fight the charges? He was best known for his implacable opposition to King Philip of Macedon, and committed suicide in 322 BCE after inciting an unsuccessful revolt against one of Philip's successors.
