The beginning of THIS SONG sees the singer "driving 85 in" and experiencing a "quarter life crisis." Its title sounds like a typical college admissions essay prompt.
Joe Jones recorded THIS SONG, but The Riviera's cover in 1963 is perhaps the best known, where all the girls walk, twist, shimmy and fly while having fun.
R. Dean Taylor apparently wrote THIS SONG after seeing "Bonnie and Clyde." It is written from the viewpoint of someone who has murdered a man who insulted his woman; he is missing his family and hiding from the state's police, who eventually catch up with him.
THIS SONG is "a fiddle-heavy celebration of growing up near the titular locale (which flows fairly close Fort Payne where the band that sings it is based), the song expresses the regrets of having gotten the urge to roam, and a desire to eventually settle down and raise a family in its vicinity." This song was the first of 21 consecutive #1 hits for the band involved.
Appearing on "Turnstiles," THIS SONG never had commercial success but is still popular enough to warrant its singer to sing it for audiences in his many concerts he plays each year. He famously did so to honor 9/11 first responders in 2001 and help raise fund for Superstorm Sandy relief on 12-12-12.
Get down your fiddle and bow. Kick off your shoes. Dance in the kitchen 'til the morning light. Enjoy a barrel of beer and catch a possum in the sack. These are a few of the things one can do in THIS SONG first sung by Mel McDaniel and later covered by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
THIS SONG (made famous first by Bing Crosby) shares its name with a 1961 film (co-starring Angela Lansbery) and album of the same name (that also contains "Rock-a-Hula Baby," the B-side to "Can't Help Falling in Love."
Written in 1968 while the singer was in London recording, THIS SONG tells of his homesickness and desire to return. It is considered its state's unofficial anthem and is sung at every commencement ceremony in Chapel Hill.
Composed as a rebuttal to "Southern Man," THIS SONG'S famous line "Turn it up" was merely the lead singer asking the sound booth to turn up his volume at the start of recording and not part of the lyrics. It stayed.
According to the singer: "We attracted teenage girls almost exclusively and the house, usually a high school auditorium, was filled to the rafters with screaming females night after night." The result may have been THIS SONG, apparently written in the back of a limo as the singer approached the outskirts of Paducah.
The family in THIS SONG is quite talented: mom fixes carburetors, brother is a mediator for the President and dad wrestles alligators. Only things we know about the main subject is her pack a day habit and her wearing high heels during exercise.
THIS SONG, off 1980's "Wild Planet," should not be confused with a 1991 Gus van Sant film starring River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves (although van Sant used a line from the song to name his film). (Remember, we are looking for the SONG).
