Need to bone up on your Billboard Chart history? Ever get a question at pub quiz about a one-hit-wonder and you scream in frustration? Then this series of quizzes will help you! I'll be talking about artists that only had ONE song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. I'll be doing a quiz or three (there's a lot of these songs) for every decade that the Hot 100 has been around. So, get your music brains on and let's begin! Let's go back to the greatest decade of music: the 1990s: the time of wonder(walls), teen pop, and not having to take your shoes off before you got on an airplanes.

Let's start at the beginning: in 1990, WHICH ARTIST got her #1 with "Love Will Lead You Back"? Written by the prolific Diane Warren and originally intended for Whitney Houston, super producer Clive Davis directed it to this artist instead.
"I love when you shake it like that ah ah ah" is responded to with "I see that you like it like that oh oh oh" on WHAT 1998 SONG by R&B group Next?
Ace of Base came in like a wrecking ball in 1994 with their brand of Swedish europop and their monster debut album Happy Nation. WHAT SONG, which may have opened up your eyes, topped the charts?
In 1993, the Oscar for Best Song went to THIS SONG from Aladdin and hit #1 for Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle. It also garnered a Grammy Award for Tim Rice for Song of the Year. Would've been amazing if he'd been riding a magic carpet to accept the awards.
"It's such a good vibration!" Loleatta Holloway belted this line in her featured role on this 1991 Marky Mark track. We all know him as the much more serious actor Mark Wahlberg now but WHAT BACKING BAND supported him when he was still modeling Calvin Kleins?
An ambassador for designated driving, THIS 1995 SONG by Montell Jordan with a 6-word title celebrates Friday nights and feeling alright. Just remember: South Central does it like noboby does.
A true one-hit wonder: Sweet Sensation, a female trio from The Bronx, hit the top spot in 1990 with WHAT SONG that goes "Then I would be that someone always special in your heart and we would still be lovers, not apart"?
Our next three questions all concern songs from 1991: WHAT BRITISH-AMERICAN BAND, off their second album In the Blood, released house music jam "I've Been Thinking About You"? Entertainment Weekly noted the song for its "hypnotically catchy chorus, sweet harmonies and slow, rollicking beat."
"Gonna Make You Sweat" by C+C Music Factory hit the top spot and immediately courted controversy. The famous line "Everybody dance now" is sung by a full-figured female artist who was a member of The Weather Girls ("It's raining men! Hallelujah!"). However, in the video, the line was lip-synched by a much-skinnier woman who actually did sing on C+C's "Things That Make You Go Hmmm." NAME EITHER WOMAN.
WHAT SONG by Karyn White, off her second album Ritual of Love, made it to the top of the pops in 1991? She borrowed producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who had made it big producing for Janet Jackson.
Let's close out 1994 with All-4-One, a male R&B group, who covered WHAT SONG by country artist John Michael Montgomery and saw it climb all the way to the top? This school dance favorite continues to make teens sway under the moon and the stars in the sky...or the ones hanging from their gym ceiling.
When Billboard changed their rules in 1991 and debuted the Neilsen Soundscan system, it opened up the charts to more rap and R&B music. It was immediately reflected on the charts when, in the first week, R&B duo PM Dawn hit the #1 spot with WHAT SONG?
Let's finish this in 1998 and with a monster hit from the album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The former Fugees singer dropped the lead single and most people refer to it by its subtitle, "That Thing." What is the PROPER TITLE of this jam warning women and men about holding out that thing until they meet a good person?
