Since 2003, Swedish tax agent Henrik Franzon has been collecting and compiling data to create a deeply sourced list of "Acclaimed Music". In addition to having songs broken down in a simple list, he also has it broken down by country (and U.S. state.) Using that data for my question, given clues, name the song that topped the chart for the U.S. state mentioned in the question. Just to be clear, all 12 answers will be SONGS.

How does it feel to know that this 1965 song tops the overall list, the overall U.S. list, and the Minnesota list?
The author of the top song from the Washington (state) list claimed in his lifetime that the core riff of this 1991 song was a cliche, either borrowing from Boston's "More than a Feeling" or The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie" (Oregon's list topper!).
Though the author prefers California's #3 overall song by the same artist, the distinctive production of this California #1 from 1966 includes use of the jaw harp and the Electro-Theremin.
The highest rating song on the U.S. list from a Washington, DC native is this 1967 song from Motown's Tamla label. An 11-minute cover version appeared four years later on the album Cosmo's Factory
The top six songs for Mississippi all belong to a native of Tupelo, the highest ranking song has found a new place to dwell at #15 on the overall U.S. list.
Nevada's list is topped by four songs all from the 2000s by this Las Vegas-based band, fronted by Brandon Flowers. The top song on the list is the debut single by the band, released in 2003, discussing "the jealousy and paranoia of a man who suspects his significant other is cheating on him."
Texas' list is topped by a 2003 song by a Houston native, featuring a lyrical contribution from a Brooklyn native (the artist's then-future husband.) The song is about "a romantic obsession that causes the protagonist to act out of character."
All four of West Virginia's tracks that are listed on the site come from Bill Withers, topped by this 1971 track in which Mr. Withers says "I Know" 26 consecutive times, which were originally intended as filler for a third verse that had not yet been written.
Since the Deal sisters are from Dayton, this 1993 track tops the list for Ohio. Oh forget it, this question is blown to hell, crash, on the last splash.
New Jersey. It's a rock song. Yes, it's who you think. Yes, it's the one you think. Just sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream.
Though Hank Williams, Sr. occupies six of Alabama's top 8 spots, this 1966 song by Percy Sledge (and not the praised in Office Space 1991 cover by Michael Bolton) takes Alabama's #1 spot.
