Episode 1 of Pretty Good is about Koo Dae-Sung, an eccentric Korean relief pitcher for the New York Mets. Koo's shining moment was a double to the wall off this future Hall of Famer, who is also well-known for killing a dove with a pitch.
The second episode of Pretty Good includes a full two minute digression devoted to the economy of these objects in the 1980s. Even if you're taking it up into the stratosphere, one of these objects should not cost $110, especially if you bought it from Sears.
In the intro to Episode 3, Jon describes the episode's subject, Lonnie Smith, as "the third most fascinating athlete of the 1980s". Name either of the other two.
Episode 4, entitled "The Night Stanislav Petrov Saved All of Our Asses", is currently unavailable online, due to copyright issues. At the end of the episode, its titular Soviet lieutenant colonel, years after preventing a nuclear apocalypse, gets to meet this American actor/director of The Postman and Open Range. No, he wasn't really relevant to the story, but he was in a lot of baseball movies.
"Season 2" of Pretty Good opens with an episode on the River City Relay, purportedly the only three-lateral touchdown in NFL history. Unfortunately, the video is titled after this word, which was cried out by New Orleans Saints radio announcer Hokie Gajan after kicker John Carney missed the game-tying extra point.
In "THE DUMBEST BOY ALIVE.", which includes the golden quote "It's like math", an argument involving this unit of time spirals into a two-day argument on a bodybuilding forum. One faction in the argument introduces the concept of the "real" type of this unit.
Episode 7, the first Pretty Good episode to explore a larger topic rather than a single event, examines post-9/11 America through the lens of this real-time television series, calling it "the funniest death cult on television".
"WHY DO I CHOOSE THIS FOR A LIVING?" is about the strategies and oddities of professionally playing this "sport", which features top players like Chris Moneymaker, Phil Hellmuth, and Gus Hansen.
Episode 9 deals with the 1904 Summer Olympics, specifically this absolutely bonkers event. Things that are involved in this story: Wild dogs, apples, racist pseudoscience, a dude who was dressed like a waiter, dust wearing away the membrane of one guy's the stomach, and giving an athlete brandy and strychnine.
Episode 10 is just a sequence of crazy stories about the highest-scoring football game of all time, a 222-0 win by this ACC school over Cumberland. The official mascot of this school, coached at the time by John Heisman, is the "Ramblin' Wreck".
In Episode 11, this nobly-named veteran basketball player swishes an 89-foot shot, and...that's about all that happens. It's really a minor episode, compared to the full-on craziness of the ones before and after.
The twelfth episode of Pretty Good deals with the highest-scoring college basketball game of all time (noticing a theme here?) between Troy State and a Georgia outpost of this for-profic, which you might not expect to have a basketball team (or any sports team at all, really).
The final episode of Pretty Good to date takes place during and after the 1987 NFL players' strike. It is titled after Eagles quarterback Randall Cunningham performing this specific five-word action, often attributed to Karl Marx. In recent years, the third word of this action has sometimes been replaced by "memes".
