I was saddened to learn of the death this week of prolific vocalist, bass player, and songwriter John Wetton, best known as the frontman of 80s supergroup Asia. This set of questions is inspired by his life and art, resulting in a somewhat general quiz that still leans heavily toward music and pop culture. I hope it serves as a fond remembrance of John Wetton or even inspires some new listeners to check out his impressive body of work.

In a key scene from the milestone 2001 South Park episode Kenny Dies, Eric Cartman leads the U.S. House of Representatives in a stirring rendition of Asia's signature song, "Heat of the Moment," nonsensically but successfully persuading them to legalize WHAT CONTROVERSIAL SCIENTIFIC ENDEAVOR?
Asia keyboardist Geoff Downes is also known for WHAT TECHNOLOGY-WARY 1979 HIT by his previous band The Buggles, a song whose title and subject matter would ultimately prove an ironic comment on its distinctive place in media history?
Unlike Geoff Downes (whose stint with Yes was too brief), Asia guitarist Steve Howe will join the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when Yes is inducted this year. WHO ELSE IS IN THE ROCK HALL "CLASS OF 2017"? (Name any one of the other six artists.)
Asia drummer Carl Palmer (subject of some recent LL questions) has had a rough go of it lately; Wetton is the second friend and bandmate he's lost to cancer in as many months. WHO WAS THE FIRST, also a singer, bassist, and former member of King Crimson?
Now here's a gimmick — after the self-titled debut, Asia's discography includes six more one-word album titles that both begin and end with the letter A. WHAT'S ONE OF THEM? (Hint: Alpaca isn't on the list, nor are any other continents.)
After Wetton left King Crimson, the bassists who followed, Tony Levin and Trey Gunn, would both incorporate WHAT UNUSUAL INSTRUMENT, played by tapping the strings instead of plucking them, and seen here with the inventor for whom it is named?
Danger Money, the second album by transitional Wetton project U.K., features a "blues" named for WHAT ICONIC LUXURY HOTEL AND CASINO, where the residency concert Céline is nearing the end of a six-year contract?
In 2013, a late-career Wetton sang a guest role as the psychiatrist on Dutch musician Arjen Lucassen's The Theory of Everything. He's not the only graying gent to play a shrink for Lucassen, as fellow Dutchman Rutger Hauer, best known to Americans as the antagonist of WHAT CLASSIC SCI-FI FILM, voiced the winkingly-named Dr. Voight-Kampff on 2012's Lost in the New Real?
A brief but touching instrumental tribute to Wetton was posted online by WHAT RENOWNED MUSICIAN, known (among many other things) for a massively successful 1992 single written about a more personal loss, that of his young son?
Nicknamed the Cherries, the football club from WHAT SOUTHERN COASTAL ENGLISH TOWN, Wetton's childhood home, is playing its second season ever in the Premier League after a meteoric three-league rise from finishing just out of relegation in League Two only 8 years ago?
Asia was notable for being a supergroup, its four members previously associated with several distinct groups. Click the link to hear clips of two 2000s supergroups, both formed by grafting the lead singer of one band onto the instrumentalists of another. WHO WAS THE FORMER FRONTMAN OF EITHER "BACKING BAND"?
Two answers required. Click the link for an Audio Daily Double from, er, a memorable episode of Celebrity Jeopardy!. Heard here are WHAT TWO SNL CAST MEMBERS, who both appeared in all 15 editions of the sketch? (Hint: You probably remember the guy playing Travolta as a different SNL Celebrity Jeopardy! role... or at least your mother does.)
