The official name of this state's red, white, and blue flag is "triangular swallowtail".

In 2010, a change in state law mandated that three drops of blood be visible on the "pelican in her piety" seal on this state's flag.

The blue and gold flag of this state is the only one to currently have a different image on its reverse side, that of a beaver.

From 1909-1992, this state's flag featured its nickname "The Sunshine State."

A silver star, two sprays of green sagebrush, and the phrase "Battle Born" all appear in the upper left corner of this state's flag.

Monarch, the last of his species to be found in the state, is said to be the model for the animal at the center of this state's flag, adopted in its current form in 1911.

This state's flag features the dates May 20, 1775 and April 12, 1776, which are the dates of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence and the Halifax Resolves, bolstering this state's claims to early support for American independence.

“By the sword we seek peace, but peace under liberty” is the translation of the Latin motto on this state's flag, which also featured a disembodied arm holding a sword, just to make sure you get the point.
