The strength of tornadoes is measured by the EF-Scale based upon how much damage a storm causes. The scale runs from 0 (minor or no damage) to 5 (total destruction of buildings). The F in EF-Scale stands for the last name of this Japanese-American meteorologist who was fondly known as "Dr. Tornado"
According to the NOAA, between the years of 1991 and 2010 this state experienced the most tornadoes per square mile of any state, though most were of the weaker EF-0 and EF-1 variety that often occur as part of another major meteorological event.
