The film is loosely based on another John Hughes short story that was set in THIS YEAR. A film cannister in the attic alludes to it.
Clark is expecting a massive bonus to fund a pool. In his mind, he's getting that bonus because of his work on THIS TYPE OF FOOD PRODUCT.
THESE TWO ACTORS played Rusty and Audrey. As per "tradition," they were a totally different set of actors from the previous film. As an in joke, Clark mentions how he doesn't even recognize his kids anymore.
Aunt Bethany was played by Mae Questel (in her final film), who was previously known as being the longest tenured voice of THIS CARTOON CHARACTER. The year before "Christmas Vacation," she would play the character one last time in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."
When Aunt Bethany is asked to say Grace, she instead starts into THIS, prompting Cousin Eddie to stand up for the occasion.
As the film was made on the Warner Brothers lot, the house belonging to [the Answer to Q8] is the same house that was used in THIS SPECIFIC FILM. It is not sure whether or not an exploding toilet's damage was made before or after "Christmas Vacation" was filmed.
Cousin Eddie mistakenly thought Clark worked for the company that "killed all those people in India" thinking it was THIS COMPANY that was involved in the Bhopal disaster in 1984.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus (one of four SNL alums in the film) plays THIS NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR of the Griswolds who is annoyed by all the lights, the tree landing in the dining room and the cops banging down her door (and let's not bring up the carpet). FIRST AND LAST NAME PLEASE
"Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since THIS GUY DID THIS WITH THIS OTHER GUY. [SEVEN WORDS] And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse."
Instead of the anticipated money bonus, Clark gets a subscription to THIS. Cousin Eddie comments that it's the "gift that keeps on giving throughout the entire year."
At the end of the "cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit" rant about his boss, Clark proclaims "Hallelujah," followed by a "Holy Shit" before asking "Where's the BLANK?"
Yes Virginia, there was a made-for-TV sequel to this film. What was it's subtitle? It references a character in the first film.
