The University of Queensland in Australia is home to what is believed to be the longest-running continuous scientific experiment in the world. In 1927, a sealed funnel was filled with a substance that was allowed to harden for about three years. The seal was then removed, and nine drops have fallen since. Most commonly bitumen or asphalt, what is the more generic name of the substance, which is more viscous than tar and (roughly) 230 billion times more viscous than water.
