Though originally written in 1961 by Roy Orbison, it was performed in 1980 on the penultimate episode Muppet Show by its most famous singer and in later 1989 cover by she-who-never-promised-you-a-rose-garden Lynn Anderson and by Dolly Parton on her 80's variety show. It is a tribute to the intracity Rivalry Trophy game that caused the ’89 Heisman winner to miss the NYC ceremony and was the final game of the Southwest Conference in 1995.
