On December 23, 1883, Henry Rathbone, U.S. Consul to Hanover, in a fit of madness, attacked his children then fatally shot and stabbed his wife. He then proceeded to stab himself five times in the chest in a suicide attempt. Rathbone is better known to history, however, for his presence at the April 14, 1865 performance of WHAT PLAY in Washington, DC?
