No one generally debates that Kramer vs. Kramer was a great film, and in fact, it won both the Oscar for Best Picture and Globe for Best Picture (Drama). However, at least the Globes passed on giving Kramer director Robert Benton an award, because this guy clearly deserved something for directing one of the better films of the latter half of the 20th century. Identify this director who (allegedly) had to be prevented from committing suicide multiple times during the shoot, and mortgaged his own home and winery to finish the production. and whose wife later spliced her "making of" movie footage into an award winning documentary.which won a pair of Emmys when it premiered on Showtime in 1991.
