While the Oscars often times get rightfully scolded for not doing enough to recognize comedy, one year that they massively effed up was at the 1999 Awards when Shakespeare in Love (which won the Globe for Best Comedy/Musical) defeated this clearly better film for the Best Picture Oscar (which had won the Globe for Best Drama).
