Lake City is the control city listed on the signs for I-10 West from I-95 in Jacksonville despite being a generally unremarkable small town of about 12,000 people. This is most likely for the same reason why Lake City dubs itself the “Gateway to Florida” – because just northwest of the city is the intersection between I-10 and what other interstate that does indeed go on to hit several important Florida cities on its way south?
