This film opens in 1983 with an older U.S. Postal employee shooting an unarmed Italian immigrant at a post office. That post office worker had served in Italy with the 92nd Infantry, and when separated from his unit befriended a young Italian boy and his village which he eventually helps to defend from German soldiers. Adopted from a 2003 James McBride novel, identify this 2008 film which sees Cpl. Negron rescue Angelo (who as an adult gets Negron off the murder charge) and his town, possibly with the help of a magical statue's head.
