This man served as Grand Admiral of the German Navy until the end of the Second World War. He was Hitler's named successor as head of state, a position he served for three weeks following Hitler's suicide before the Allies implemented their occupation. He was convicted and sentenced to 10 years by the Nuremberg IMT. In the post-war years he enjoyed a rehabilitated reputation and his funeral in 1981 was attended by members of both the German and UK Royal navies in uniform.
