The first volunteer fire department in the US was founded in Pennsylvania in 1736, thanks in part to this future Founding Father. Although he was born in Boston, he settled in Philadelphia and helped create the fire department, a hospital, a university, and other landmarks while writing and publishing tons of material. A great deal of buildings and places have been named for him, including a Philadelphia bridge.
