In 2014, the wolf population in this national park had dropped to two, an alarming development since observations of the wolf and moose populations in this national park had been one of the longest ongoing population studies at 55 years. This national park consists of over 400 islands in Lake Superior, and is named for the largest of those islands, which despite being much closer to Minnesota, is a part of Michigan.
