In January 1966, the first of the 32 aircraft of this type were put into service. With a cruising altitude of 80,000 feet and a top speed of nearly Mach 3.5, these aircraft could famously only fly once a week because of extensive pre- and post flight maintenance, but stayed in military service until 1998.
